Creation of a Library Website
I hope that by the time my classmates read this posting, all are enjoying some well deserved down time after a long school year. My last day of school was June 22. Unfortunately, I am nursing a cold and trying to keep up with assignments.
Using google, I used the search terms of school library weebly websites and ran across two schools that had interesting websites. One was Valencia High School and the other was Chapel Hill High School. I liked Valencia High School's website because it was very simple. Basic information such as location, hours of operation, accessing the school catalog etc were prominent on the homepage. I did not see anything like a library blog or a library wiki as was suggested in the article about what every library website should include. At any rate I thought it was a good library website. The other website I visited and really liked was the Chapel Hill Library website. This website did not have much about the library on the homepage other than the location and hours of the library. However, it has a plethora of resource links that I am interested in using for my website. The tabs at the top of the page provide more intricate details about the work of the library which in my opinion is a good design strategy.
As mentioned earlier, I decided to go with weebly because it was easy to use. It did take me some time to get use to its formatting images and res-sizing them to work for the design I selected. My website is a work in progress and I have much work to do with it. It is a start and I welcome constructive comments on how I can improve it. I really like the Valencia High School website for some of your same reasons. It has a nice, clean, and crisp layout. I thought the color and overall "look" of the website was appropriate for high school. On the Chapel Hill website, I saw Symbaloo, which I saw on several library websites. I can't make up my mind if I like it or not. It's great for visual links, but it just looks overwhelming to my eyes. I wouldn't know where to begin searching for a particular link.
